COVID-19: Nigeria records 148 new cases as confirmed cases approach 3000

Nigeria has recorded 148 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2950.

The new cases were reported on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

Lagos accounted for the majority of cases with 43. Kano, with 32 new case recorded the second highest figure; while Zamfara (14 new cases) and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (10 new cases) made up the top four.

In summary, a total of 16 states and the FCT were responsible for the 148 new cases reported on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the official death toll from COVID-19 in Nigeria currently sits at 98. On the other hand, a total of 481 persons had so far been discharged after making full recoveries.

The foregoing was disclosed by Nigeria’s disease-fighting agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). As a matter of fact, the NCDC disclosed the new statistics via its verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Meanwhile, a breakdown of the cases per state reveals that Lagos remains in the lead as Nigeria’s COVID-19 hotspot. Lagos has accounted for 1226 confirmed cases. Kano is next with 397 cases followed by the FCT with 307 cases.

Borno has racked up 106 cases so far while Gombe has reported 98 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Katsina is next on the list with 92 cases followed by Ogun with 91.

In all, a total of 34 states and the FCT have so far recorded at least one confirmed case of COVID-19.

In fact, only two states are yet to join the list. They are Cross River and Kogi.
