Kano, Nigeria— The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has called off the much-anticipated Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state. The announcement was made on Wednesday night at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano.
Initially, the durbar was set to be a grand event, coinciding with Emir Bayero’s fifth anniversary on the throne. However, after consultations with Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and his council members, the decision was taken to prioritize peace and security.
Emir Bayero emphasized the importance of unity and urged residents to mark the Sallah celebration by visiting family and friends in a peaceful and harmonious manner. He also prayed for divine blessings and forgiveness during the sacred month of Ramadan.
The cancellation underscores growing security concerns in the region, as authorities continue to work towards ensuring the safety of Kano’s residents.
