A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has thrown his weight behind a popular activist, Sunday Igboho and the quit notice issued to Fulani herdsmen to leave the South West.
4wardwego reports that Sunday Igboho had given the Fulani a seven-day ultimatum to quit; even as he accused them of perpetrating murders and kidnappings.
The development had seen the Oyo State Governor, Seye Makinde, order the arrest of the activist. However, Fani-Kayode has hailed the move by Sunday Igboho. Specifically, Fani-Kayode had described the development as a sign of the rise of radical, young leaders in the region.
Further, he had expressed his support for their belief in Oduduwa Republic.
Equally important, Fani-Kayode had disclosed this on his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, on Friday.
He had tweeted: ‘‘New leaders are rising up in the SW. They are strong, fearless, radical & young. Names like Sunday Igboho, Olayomi Koiki and others come to mind. The SW has finally got a new set of champions & heroes. They believe in Oduduwa Republic. None can stand against them. I commend them.’’
4wardwego reports that Sunday Igboho had led his supporters to storm Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday.
The popular activist was received by hundreds of youths in the town. Addressing the youths at Igangan Town Hall, Sunday Igboho had restated his determination to rid the region of Fulanis.
‘‘What is happening will not be limited to this place. We will drive out Fulani from entire Yorubaland. They want to be killing us. We will not accept this,’’ he had stated.
However, Makinde had expressed his opposition to the move.
As a matter of fact, the Oyo State Governor stated that his administration government would resist anyone hiding under the guise of protecting Yoruba interests to cause ethnic tension and perpetrate crisis; noting that the security agencies have been charged not to target any particular ethnic group; but to wage war against criminal elements, irrespective of their tribes, religions, or creed.
Further, Makinde charged the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko, to treat Sunday Igboho and others; whom he described as fanning the embers of ethnic tension, as common criminals, when caught.
