Fire has engulfed the Kogi State House of Assembly complex located at Crusher Area, Lokoja. The incident was said to have happened on Monday morning.
The Chamber’s floor sustained significant damage as a result of the fire that tore through the ceiling.
The state security adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, and the speaker of the house, Mathew Kolawole, were among the first people to arrive at the assembly building.
The Speaker of the House, Prince Mathew Kolawole spoke to journalists at the assembly complex. He said the house will allow security agencies to investigate the incident.
He further said that he suspects sabotage but fell short of where the suspected sabotage might be from. When asked whether it could be linked with the recent happening between the Assembly and Dangote group, he said that that is left to the security to determine.
He, however, said this would not stop the assembly from performing its duty; as the resolution of the house concerning Dangote Cement Plc stands.
Recall that there is an ongoing dispute between Kogi State Government and Dangote Group over the ownership of Dangote Cement Plc; and the alleged non-payment of taxes and revenues due to the state government by the company. Kogi State government had last Wednesday sealed Dangote Cement’s factory located in Obajana over alleged tax evasion and equity ownership.
The cause of the fire incident was still unknown at the time of filing this report.
