His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, delivered a broadcast today addressing the ongoing national protest and the state of affairs in Plateau. He began by expressing gratitude to the citizens, particularly the youth, for their understanding and dignified conduct during the #Endbadgovernance protests.
Governor Mutfwang commended the citizens for showcasing the peaceful nature of Plateau, attributing past strife to external influences seeking to divide the state. He emphasized the importance of unity and mutual respect, invoking Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “We either live together as brothers or we perish as fools.”
Highlighting the efforts made to alleviate poverty, the Governor mentioned various initiatives, including improvements in public transportation, investments in agriculture, health, and education. Notably, he discussed the distribution of over 200 trucks of fertilizer and the empowerment of citizens through the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA).
The Governor acknowledged the challenges faced between 2015 and 2023, a period he described as “the season of the locusts,” but reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to addressing poverty and improving the state’s economy. He urged patience and understanding as the government continues its efforts.
Addressing security concerns, Governor Mutfwang revealed that the peaceful protests had been infiltrated by criminals, prompting the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis. He praised traditional, community, and religious leaders, as well as civil society organizations, for their role in maintaining peace and urged continued vigilance against disruptions.
Governor Mutfwang concluded by appealing for continued patience, peace, and unity among citizens, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to building a prosperous and secure Plateau State.
