The Islamic police in Kano State known as Hisbah have arrested a 26-year-old man, Aliyu Na Idris, who was trending on social media last weekend for putting himself up for sale due to what he called poverty.
This was confirmed on Wednesday, October 27, by the Hisbah Commander, Harun Ibn Sina, who added that Aliyu Na Idris’ actions were forbidden.
“Yes we arrested him on Tuesday and he spent the night with us. What he did is forbidden in Islam, you can’t try to sell yourself no matter your condition or situation,” the commander said.
The arrested tailor, who had been speaking to journalists before his arrest by Hisbah, said he was in a huge financial mess, hence his decision to put a N20 million price tag on his person promising to wholeheartedly serve his buyer.
“The decision to sell myself was due to poverty, I plan to give my parents N10 million when I eventually get a buyer, pay N5 million as tax to the government, give N2 million to anyone who helped me get a buyer and keep the remaining for daily upkeep,” Aliyu told journalists in Kano before his arrest.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has accused politicians of fuelling crisis in his state.
He disclosed this on Tuesday, October 26, during Day Two of the Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja where participants had gathered to deliberate on the nation’s security, education, and politics.
According to Lalong, the governors of the 19 northern states are in full support of the creation of state police to tackle the numerous security challenges facing their domain.
He noted that Plateau has long been known as a state of peace and tourism; before some political actors started creating problems in the state.
“Plateau is codenamed the home of peace and tourism. Then all of a sudden, what happened? I will say also that part of it is the role of political actors,” he said.
“You see people bringing issues like ethnicity, religion-dominated issues; and so we were now beginning to see ourselves as enemies.
“If I am a Christian, I don’t want a Moslem to come near me or I belong to this tribe; I don’t want that tribe to come in.”
