The suspended acting chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Thursday, July 16, refuted allegations that he gave N4 billion to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Magu lampooned the claims as an attempt to tarnish the image of the Vice President.
The suspended EFCC boss, who was freed from detention on Wednesday, equally denied giving the sum of N28 million to Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer.
Magu made this revelation via a petition signed by his lawyer, Wahab Kunle Shittu, and addressed to the Chairman of the Presidential Investigations Panel, Justice Isa Ayo Salami.
“Our client strongly denies this falsehood against the respected Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our client has never given the sum of N4 billion or any sum at all to Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, GCON, Vice President of Federal Republic of Nigeria as wrongly reported.”
“This allegation is complete falsehood designed to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the Vice President.
“This allegation is a complete fabrication. Our client never gave N28 million or any amount to Mr. Femi Falana SAN as maliciously reported. Our client also denies any link with a Kaduna-based Bureau De Change Operator as alleged,” the petition reads.
Meanwhile, the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on Thursday, July 16, mocked a Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana, on what to do over reports he got N28 million from the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
Fayose blasted Falana telling him to quit making “empty threats” and proceed to court to prove his innocence.
He further said that the likes of Falana should “stop carrying on as if they are saints and untouchables.”
A recent media report had claimed that the presidential probe panel investigating Magu for alleged financial malfeasance reportedly revealed that he gave Falana N28 million.
However, Falana, via a letter signed by his lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, denied the claim.
But in a tweet on his Twitter handle, @GovAyoFayose, Fayose asked the lawyer to drop the threats and head straight to court to clear his name.
Fayose wrote, “My counsel to Falana is that he should stop making empty threats and go to court.
“If there is nothing to hide, why is Femi Falana threatening instead of simply going to court? Isn’t this alleged link to Magu another opportunity for him to go to court and clear his name?
“Methinks his likes should stop carrying on as if they are saints and untouchables.”
