As the Peoples Democratic Party’s standard-bearer for the state’s November 11 governorship election, Dino Melaye has previously been introduced.
On May 3, in Lokoja, Kogi State’s capital, the ceremony was attended by the party leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state.
Melaye praised each party member for putting their trust in him and vowed not to let them down in his speech following his introduction to the party faithful.
Melaye asserted that Kogi shouldn’t be in poverty because the state is sitting high on a gold mine that has the potential to make its citizens tremendously wealthy.
“Over 42 mineral resources in Kogi State remain unexplored. If there are five Obajanas in the state, nothing is wrong. There is no justification for Ajaokuta not to be productive. We have no justification for relying on the federal allocation made each month. When I am elected governor via you in November, all of these things will come to an end, he declared.
“We have enormous resources and loose funds around the world that are just waiting to be accessed; all you need are the right conditions and creative ideas to do so,” he continued. I’ll leverage my connections to draw in investment from all over the world.
Melaye, a two-term senator who represented Kogi West, was elected on the April 15 delegates election having polled 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jabiru Usman, who polled 127 votes.
Also speaking during the ceremony, ex-governor Ibrahim Idris called on party faithful to rally behind Melaye who he described as a formidable personality who will bring the state out of the woods of the past seven years.
“To do this, there is the need to see ourselves on one big family and work together to install Dino Melaye in November,” Idris said.
