In the wake of the passing of Nigerian musician Ilerioulwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Azeez Fashola, the owner of Marlian Music records, and also known as Naira Marley, has affirmed his determination to vindicate himself and demonstrate his innocence in connection with Mohbad’s demise.
Naira Marley conveyed this message through a statement shared on his Instagram account on Tuesday. He additionally expressed his willingness to cooperate with the police inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic passing of his former signee, Mohbad.
Expressing his readiness to collaborate with the relevant authorities in the investigative process, Naira Marley stated, “In light of the police’s invitation, I am in the process of returning to the country to facilitate the investigation and present my account of the events. I am fully cooperating with the police team, and I have no reason to evade justice when I played no role in his demise.”
“In due course, the truth about Mohbad’s death will be unveiled, and the world will come to understand the reality of the situation. Such attempts to frame someone are not unprecedented in the industry, as other esteemed musicians have faced similar challenges and emerged even stronger. My situation will be no different because I am innocent of the allegations,” the statement read in part.
Naira Marley elaborated further, explaining that since Mohbad’s departure from the record label in September 2022, and the label’s acceptance of his exit, “Marlian Music has not hindered his career or music releases, as he has been associated with oneRPM. Legal steps were taken to address his concerns regarding our past collaborations.”
Mohbad was laid to rest on September 13. However, in light of an investigation by the Lagos State Police Command to uncover the circumstances of his passing, his remains were exhumed for a post-mortem examination.
