Police authorities in Lagos State have taken Naira Marley into custody for questioning over the death of Mohbad.
“Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities,” Lagos police command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said late Tuesday.
Naira Marley is required to help the authorities with their investigation into the death of his former signee Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad,
Although the musician has been charged with being involved in Mohbad’s death, he has vowed to clear his reputation; and had already confirmed his presence in Nigeria before the police’s statement to assist the investigation into the death of his former signee.
“I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
“It’s important I do my part for Imole. I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.”
The action taken on Tuesday is the most recent development after Mohbad’s passing. He allegedly suffered abuse before passing away, and his death occurred in suspicious circumstances.
Nigerians have sought a probe into the circumstances of his death ever since he passed away. Many areas of Nigeria saw protests as young people flocked the streets to express their outrage over the singer’s passing.
Police officials exhumed Mohbad’s body despite the fact that he was buried less than two days after passing away. Later, an autopsy was performed, but the results are still pending.
The Senate visited the late singer’s family and observed a moment of silence in honour of the star’s passing; showing that the Federal Government has also taken an interest in the situation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to participate in the investigation. He also pledged to see that justice was done.
