Troops of Operation Safe Haven today paraded one Mr Adamu Umar who kidnapped Zuwaira Mohammed and demanded for a ransom of 2 million naira.
The Men of the Operation Safe Haven with a little over 2000 men, must be commended for their continuous efforts in ensuring peace and order with various arrests of criminal elements in and around Plateau state,
One Zuwaira Mohameed, wife of Rabiu Mohammed was lured by one Adamu Umar around 7am within Guratop in Rayfield. The Adamu Umar claimed to have some items to sell to the victim. He then held her captive and demanded a ransom of 2 million Naira from her husband to guarantee her release. The husband reported to OPSH and was advised to agree to pay the ransom and a collection point was agreed on. Own troops stormed the location, arrested the abductor and rescued the victim. The kidnapper had been arrested on 2 occasions in the past and is on the wanted list of the police anti kidnap squad
In another development, troops of OPSH arrested an armed robber along Bida Bidi – Zaria road in Jos North LGA. While others were neutralised during a gun duel, another 4 armed robbers were arrested at rayfield and dung village with 3 locally fabricated pistols. Similarly 5 gunrunners were apprehended at Zololo junction, Zaria road and Agwan Rimi with 2 locally made pistols and one ak 47 rifle. Others are members of local militia groups linked to recent attacks within the joint operation area.
A locally fabricated ak 47 rifle was recovered with 2 rounds of 7.62mm, the culprit when interviewed by our media crew claimed to be a middle man, he collects the guns from the local manufacturer, then sell them out to his clients while his accompanist transport the guns to the customers using his tricycle.
Also, one Mr Idris Muhammad who was paraded with a foreign pistol when interviewed claimed to be a business man, he said he has a provision shop, he obtained the pistol with the sum of 100,000 Naira.
OPSH stated that “this series of arrests is line with the chief of defence staff directive for operation accord 2 which is meant to deny criminals freedom of action as well as clear criminal and militia hideouts within the joint operation area. We want to assure all law abiding citizens of their safety as they continue to assist OPSH by providing credible information”.
