The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) convened a post-election review meeting with its staff on December 12, 2024, at its headquarters in Jos. The initiative, led by the commission’s chairman and members, aimed to assess the successes and challenges of the October 9, 2024, local government elections and chart a path for enhanced electoral processes in the future.
Barr. Pam Gyang Davou, Secretary of PLASIEC, representing the Chairman, stated that the review was part of a broader engagement strategy. Earlier sessions had been held with political parties, media organizations, and civil society groups. “It is vital to include our in-house staff in these discussions. Their perspectives, observations, and advice will better prepare the commission for subsequent elections,” he explained. Sessions were divided by staff levels, ensuring inclusive participation.
Staff members appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the review process. Dorkat Patience, a recently employed staff member, expressed her gratitude for the insights gained. “This meeting broadened my understanding of the election process. Before now, I never knew the complexities involved. The knowledge shared today assures me that future elections will be even better,” she remarked.
Mr. Titus Gara, a PLASIEC staff member from Bokkos Local Government, highlighted the credibility of the 2024 elections while emphasizing the importance of the review. “This process helps us identify areas for improvement and ensures that we can deliver even more credible elections in the future,” he said.
