The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), led by Chairman Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, concluded its series of courtesy visits to key stakeholders in Plateau State today. These visits, which began late last month, included engagements with the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), among others. This initiative is part of PLASIEC’s comprehensive preparations for the forthcoming local government elections.
During the visit to PRTVC, Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak emphasized the critical role of the media in ensuring transparent, credible, and efficient elections. He underscored the importance of collaboration with media organizations for effective voter education and accurate information dissemination. “We are here to introduce ourselves and establish a connection, knowing how crucial this agency is. Elections, particularly at the grassroots level, are sensitive and serious,” Cishak stated, commending PRTVC for their efforts so far.
Responding, Acting General Manager of PRTVC, Mrs Rita Kacholom Pam, expressed confidence in the capabilities of the PLASIEC team. “With your support and your prayers, we know that Plateau State will really go places,” Pam remarked. She pledged PRTVC’s full cooperation in ensuring free and fair elections, highlighting the media’s expansive reach from local to international audiences through various platforms.
At the NSCDC, Hon. Cishak highlighted the indispensable role of security in the electoral process. He praised the NSCDC for its efforts in maintaining peace and stressed that PLASIEC would uphold global standards of transparency and credibility in the elections. “We know the importance of security in elections. It requires civil society, security agencies, political parties, and everyone to ensure the right thing is done,” he asserted.
Commandant Alexander Bissa Barunde of the NSCDC assured PLASIEC of their full support, emphasizing the critical nature of local government elections. “If you make things easier for us, it will be easier for you also. We are here to provide you with the necessary security,” Barunde stated. He further highlighted the NSCDC’s readiness to support PLASIEC in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
These visits mark a significant step in PLASIEC’s efforts to engage with stakeholders and ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process for the local government elections in Plateau State.
