In a significant step towards improving worker welfare, the Plateau State government has announced the approval of a N70,000 minimum wage for its workforce. This development follows an agreement reached by the Committee on Consequential Adjustment on Salaries on November 13, 2024, reflecting the state government’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of its employees.

The Head of Service, Stephen Pam Gadong, shared the announcement through an official statement, underscoring the administration’s dedication to supporting workers’ welfare and fostering a productive public service environment. “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has approved the immediate implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the state,” the statement read. “This initiative is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to prioritizing the wellbeing of the workforce in recognition of their essential role in advancing the State’s developmental agenda.”

The increase aims to provide Plateau State’s civil servants with a more sustainable income, enabling them to meet rising living costs and reinforcing the government’s investment in its human capital. As the new wage policy takes effect, workers are encouraged to reciprocate by demonstrating heightened dedication and a renewed commitment to excellence in their roles.

This policy update is seen as a forward-looking measure to promote a culture of productivity, ultimately aligning with Plateau State’s aspirations for growth and prosperity. By prioritizing employee welfare, the Mutfwang administration is fostering a supportive work environment and reinforcing its commitment to the state’s development through a dedicated and well-compensated workforce.
