The Plateau State Government, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, recently wrapped up the First Phase of presenting achievements and scorecards of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from May 29th, 2023. The Ministerial Press Briefing, spearheaded by Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, Commissioner of Information and Communication, showcased the ministry’s achievements and future plans under the Time is Now administration. This initiative, which commenced on April 23rd, marked a significant step in revitalizing the ministry’s functions, with unwavering support from Governor Mutfwang.

At the heart of the ministry’s mandate lies the crucial task of information gathering, dissemination, and media coordination to promote government policies, aiming to foster an informed citizenry actively engaged in Plateau’s development and nation-building.

During the final day of the briefing on May 10th, 2024, Commissioner Ashoms highlighted several achievements and ongoing initiatives, including:

  • Establishing a digital presence across social media platforms to adapt to evolving communication trends.
  • Forming retainership arrangements with media organizations to enhance coverage.
  • Actively participating in conferences and workshops to boost staff capacity.
  • Successfully organizing national events like Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration.
  • Conducting ministerial press briefings to provide insights into government programs.
  • Engaging with various media outlets for effective government-citizen communication.
  • Collaborating with agencies and associations to support government initiatives.

The ministry celebrated significant milestones, such as rehabilitating public enlightenment vehicles and clearing outstanding balances from the previous administration. Future plans involve media tours across local government areas, publishing a government-centric magazine, and creating hand diaries showcasing the state’s rich heritage.

Plateau Publishing Corporation and Plateau Radio Television Corporation also reported progress, including content quality enhancements, staff welfare improvements, and infrastructure upgrades.

Looking beyond the Ministry of Information and Communication, other ministries also shared their accomplishments and strategies during the ministerial press briefings:

The Ministry of Finance, led by Commissioner Mrs. Dongkum Grace Shwarta, outlined achievements in financial management and economic development, despite challenges such as revenue fluctuations and staff shortages.

The Ministry of Higher Education, under Hon. Commissioner Mrs. Kachollom Gang, highlighted efforts to improve tertiary education quality, including fee reductions, scholarships, and staff recruitment.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, led by Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, detailed achievements in infrastructure development and urban renewal, alongside challenges like funding constraints and security concerns.

In conclusion, despite challenges, the Plateau State government remains dedicated to advancing its development agenda through strategic planning, collaboration, and diligent execution across various ministries. With a vision for a prosperous and sustainable Plateau State, these efforts aim to drive growth and improve the lives of its citizens.
