Following the horrifying massacre of hundreds of innocent citizens by terrorists in villages across Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived today to offer sincere condolences and express solidarity.
Accompanied by a federal government delegation, Vice President Shettima was welcomed by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Yakubu Gowon Airport Heipang. The delegation comprised notable figures such as the Former Minister of Labour and Employment and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Bako Lalong, Former Governor Joshua Dariye, legislators, and House of Assembly members.
The purpose of the visit was to convey sympathy and provide support to the mourning communities, profoundly affected by the recent terrorist attacks. Vice President Shettima, along with the delegation, is scheduled to embark on a tour of the afflicted areas in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government, aiming to witness firsthand the devastation and anguish that has left over 12 villages in mourning.
Regarding the tragic incident that unfolded on December 24, 2023, approximately 12 villages in Bokkos LGA, including Ndun, Ngyong, Murfet, Makundary, Tamiso, Chiang, Tahore, Gawarba, Dares, Meyenga, Darwat, and Butura Kampani village, were ruthlessly attacked. Similarly, three villages in Barkin-Ladi LGA—NTV, Hurum, and Darawat—faced the same harrowing fate.
The authorities have verified a grim toll, reporting over 96 casualties, 221 houses set ablaze, and 27 motorcycles along with 8 motor vehicles burnt in the brutal attack perpetrated by unidentified gunmen.
As Vice President Shettima and the accompanying delegation embark on this solemn visit, their presence serves as a poignant representation of the nation’s unity with the impacted communities and the shared determination to address the consequences of this atrocious incident. The tour is anticipated to reveal the full extent of the destruction and offer valuable insights for future interventions and support.
