Plateau State University is advancing its academic offerings, increasing its programs from fewer than 20 in 2005 to over 52. On October 28, the university, led by Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best, welcomed two Resource Verification Teams to evaluate its preparedness for these new programs.
Professor Best highlighted the institution’s rapid growth, noting the expansion from three faculties to nine at its permanent site. He emphasized that program development is a key aspect of his mandate and assured that his administration is dedicated to leaving a significant legacy.
The Acting Vice Chancellor also affirmed the university’s commitment to creating an environment that fosters research, teaching, and community service, aligning with the institution’s core mission.
The verification teams included:
- A team led by Professor Ademola Ajayi from the University of Ibadan, assessing the creation of a Department of Religious and Cultural Studies within the Faculty of Arts.
- A team led by Professor Abdulrahaman Ndanusa from Federal University of Technology Minna, evaluating the establishment of a Department of Statistics.
- Additional teams reviewing facilities for a School of Medical Sciences and Pharmacology, with oversight from the National Universities Commission.
