The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) recently wrapped up its inaugural Strategic Retreat of 2025, a three-day event focused on enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the state’s revenue collection processes. This significant gathering brought together key stakeholders and facilitated discussions on best practices, challenges, and strategies aimed at improving tax administration and increasing internally generated revenue (IGR). The retreat served as a crucial platform for sharing insights and formulating plans to boost the state’s financial performance.
At the closing ceremony, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Jim Pam Wayas, lauded the retreat as a pivotal experience, offering participants exposure to global best practices in revenue generation and financial management. He emphasized that the retreat had provided both the management and technical teams with practical strategies to bolster the state’s revenue base. Dr. Wayas expressed optimism about the positive impact this knowledge would have on the Service’s future operations.
Reflecting on the Service’s accomplishments in 2024, Dr. Wayas noted that N31.42 billion of the N38.8 billion revenue target was achieved. While acknowledging this success, he assured that the insights gained from the retreat, along with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders, would drive the Service to exceed its revenue target for 2025. This determination underscores the Service’s proactive approach to overcoming challenges and achieving substantial growth in revenue collection.
The Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arch. Samuel N. Jatau, also addressed the participants, highlighting the critical role of efficient tax collection in the state’s growth and development. He expressed confidence in the retreat’s ability to foster unity among revenue officials, urging them to collaborate as a cohesive team toward the common goal of enhancing revenue collection for the state’s prosperity. Similarly, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Philemon Daffi, commended the Service’ efforts and challenged the participants to lead the charge in ensuring Plateau State’s sustainable economic growth, emphasizing the revenue Service’s role as the “brain box” of the state’s development.
The retreat concluded with a reinforced commitment to improving tax collection efficiency, adopting innovative financial strategies, and strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Participants reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining transparency, accountability, and professionalism, ensuring that Plateau State continues to advance on a path toward sustainable economic growth.
