The Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General DC Onyemulu gave a shot at-sight order on anyone found possessing illegal weapons.
Maj. Gen. Onyemulu made the statement on Wednesday 26 May, 2021 during a stake holders and security meeting with community leaders, district heads, and youth leaders across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State, 5 Local Government from Kaduna State, and 2 Local Government Areas from Bauchi State on the recent attacks in the states.
in his opening remark the commander emphasized that “any community that we hear gunshots STF will go there and anywhere the weapons are hidden, it must be found at all cost or the Community leaders will be held responsible”.
The commander wondered why people that have been leaving peacefully in same community for years will resort to killing each other like animals.
We have come to realise that it is during farming season that the tension between farmers and herders escalate and killings arise from disputes, Dc Onyemelu added.
He gave the Community leaders a charge to go and resolve their dispute peacefully at their community level and warn their people that criminality and violence will no longer be tolerated as the command is battle ready to fish out all the culprits and it will no longer tolerate how communities hide the bad eggs perpetrating the heinous crimes.
stakeholders & community leaders on the Plateau from all local government were in attendance as they also deliberated on what can be done to curb the spread of isolated killings across the state.
