The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been set ablaze by unknown gunmen.
INEC disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, its national commissioner, information and voter education.
According to the statement, Onyeka Pauline Ugochi, the resident electoral commissioner for Ebonyi state, reported that the attack happened at 10.00 am on Sunday.
Okoye said although no casualties were; reported, 340 ballot boxes, 130 voting cubicles, 14 electric generators, and others were; destroyed.
He added that the incident has been; reported to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for investigation and; further action.
The incident comes less than three months before the 2023 general elections.
Two weeks ago, suspected hoodlums hurled loaves of bread; soaked with petrol into the INEC compound in Abeokuta, Ogun State, setting the building on fire.
A few hours later, the commission’s office in Oke-Iresi, Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State was; also set ablaze by suspected arsonists.
