A 13-year-old boy is currently in the custody of the Police authorities after allegedly murdering his father.
4wardwego blog reports that the incident occurred at Egbon Estate in Evbuotubu, Benin, on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mr. Osariakhi Oronsaye. He was 79 years old. While details of the circumstances surrounding the dastardly act are still emerging; 4wardwego blog can report that the 13-year-old boy had forewarned the father of his death.
Specifically, members of the community had disclosed that the 13-year-old boy had constantly threatened his father. Subsequently, the deceased had reported his son to the Evbuotubu Police Station a week ago.
Nevertheless, he later pleaded with the police to leave the teen alone.
However, the young boy later carried out his threat. He had allegedly picked up and axe and hacked his father to death in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday.
4wardwego blog reports that the development has created a conundrum for the Edo State Police Command.
This is in view of the age of the suspect who remains a minor and a juvenile under the law. As a result, the Police Command in Edo says it will rely on the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) as it continues investigating the alleged murder by the 13-year-old boy.
This was disclosed by SP Kontongs Bello, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on Monday in Benin.
Bello noted that the minor status of the offender had made it imperative for the command to liaise with the DPP; even as he assured that no stone would be left unturned in unravelling the motive behind the crime.
“I can confirm to you that the command is discussing with the DPP over the case. It is an unfortunate case. But we are also conducting our investigation to ensure that we unravel the case.
“The culprit is a minor, so we must be sure of what we are doing,” the PPRO said.
