Bandits attacked the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State and abducted over ‘300’ of the school girls.
According to reports available the gunmen stormed the school premises in the early hours of today, Friday, February 26.
Information commissioner of Zamfara state Sulaiman Tanau Anka however, told Reuters that it was not immediately clear how many children had been seized.
He said:
“Unknown gunmen came shooting sporadically and took the girls away,” Anka said. “Information available to me said they came with vehicles and moved the students, they also moved some on foot,”
Earlier, a teacher at the Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe, who asked to remain anonymous, told AFP news agency that “more than 300 girls are unaccounted for” after the attacked.
This sad incident is coming barely a week after Gunmen attacked the Government Science College in Kagara, Niger state and abducted 27 students and 15 others and shot a student dead.
