The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, over an alleged attempt to poison her husband’s meal in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the suspect, who had been married for about 40 days, allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s food on August 12, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident was reported following a distress call received at about 7:40 p.m. from an anonymous woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi.
Following the alert, officers from the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, were deployed to the scene.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
SP Habib disclosed that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly confessed during interrogation.
Police investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, alongside remnants of the meal, which have been preserved as exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The police spokesperson said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
