“A New Path Is Inevitable”: Dachung Bagos Speaks on PDP Crisis and Plateau’s Future

The situation within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has deteriorated to a level that can no longer be ignored, especially by those of us who carry the responsibility of representing the hopes and political interests of the Plateau people. Today, the truth is clear and unavoidable: leaving the PDP is no longer speculation— it is an imminent and strategic decision.

The party has lost the national structure, unity, and organizational discipline required to support credible candidates in a general election. The most basic question remains unanswered: Who is leading the PDP at the national level? Is it the Turaki-led faction or the Abdularam-led faction? A political party that cannot resolve its own leadership cannot defend the mandate of its candidates, nor can it offer stability to its members across the country.

For me in Plateau State, this crisis is not just an Abuja conversation—we have tasted the consequences before. We remember the confusion, abandonment, and lack of coordination that crippled our efforts after the 2023 elections that we were all removed from office through the courts for lack of structure. Our people suffered for it. Our political stability suffered. And our collective mandate was exposed due to internal disunity at the national level.

We cannot afford to take the Plateau people through that same painful experience again.
Not in 2027.
Not at a time when our politics demands clarity, strength, and national alignment.

Plateau deserves a political platform that is coherent, disciplined, and capable of delivering victory—not a platform trapped in endless internal battles. A platform that can protect our votes, defend our candidates, and provide the national structure needed to secure the future of our people.

Plateau is watching. Nigeria is watching.

It is time to embrace strategy over sentiment. We must align with a political structure that is stable, visionary, and nationally present—one that can give Plateau the voice, protection, and opportunity it deserves in the coming political season.

Our next political steps will be guided by the need to secure the interests of Plateau, safeguard the collective mandate of our people, and ensure we stand on a platform built on unity—not confusion; on strength—not crisis; on progress—not political recycling.

As we make decisions about the road ahead, I urge our leaders and stakeholders of the PDP in line with our guiding principle to reconsider the current situation of the PDP in the interest of Plateau and the advancement of our collective aspirations. What we need is a platform built on unity, strength, and forward-looking politics

For Plateau, for our people, and for the future, a new political direction is not just necessary—it is inevitable.

RT. HON. DACHUNG MUSA BAGOS
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE MEMBER, REPRESENTING
JOS SOUTH, JOS EAST FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, ABUJA 2019-NOVEMBER 2023.
