A Plateau North Senatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Gyang Zi (SAN), has issued a formal notice to the party leadership demanding ₦10 billion compensation over alleged defamation and what he described as his wrongful exclusion from the party’s senatorial primary process.
In a letter dated May 18, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC in Abuja, the senior lawyer protested his inclusion on a published list of aspirants reportedly “not cleared” to participate in the Plateau North Senatorial primary election.
Barr. Zi stated that he had duly purchased and submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms and complied with all requirements for the contest ahead of the 2027 general elections. He expressed shock that his name appeared on the APC’s official social media publication among aspirants allegedly disqualified from the race without any stated reason.
The legal practitioner described the publication as defamatory and damaging to his reputation, political ambition, and supporters. He consequently demanded the immediate discontinuance of the primary process and requested ₦10 billion in damages for alleged defamation of character and destabilization of his political structure.
Barr. Zi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), highlighted his educational, professional, and political credentials in the notice. His qualifications include LL.B, BL, and LL.M degrees, while he is also a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK).
He has held several leadership and legal positions, including Principal Counsel and Head of Litigation at Gyang Zi & Co Knights Firm, National Legal Adviser of the Catholic Men Organization of Nigeria, and former Chairman of the Berom Lawyers Forum.
The notice further warned that failure by the APC to address the matter within seven days could lead to further legal action.
