A wedding planned for Saturday, May 4th, 2024, in Farin Lamba, Vom, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, was called off just before the scheduled date.

The bride-to-be, Florence Friday, had earlier requested N30,000 from her fiancé, Morgak James, on March 28th to reserve her wedding gown. Unable to pay the full amount immediately, Morgak offered N15,000 and promised to pay the remainder the following week. Unhappy with the arrangement, Florence demanded the complete amount by the end of the week and threatened to cancel the wedding if her demand was not met.

Morgak managed to secure the full N30,000 two days later and sent it to Florence. However, this was followed by another demand from her: she wanted Morgak to move out of his family home and find a separate apartment. After much discussion, the couple agreed to live with Morgak’s family for two months post-wedding before moving out. They settled on this compromise before Morgak continued with the preliminary wedding formalities, such as introductions, church signing, and paying the bride price.

Despite these agreements, Florence called off the wedding shortly before it was to take place, citing Morgak’s failure to move out of his family home as promised. Morgak was left stunned by the decision, particularly since he had already invested significantly in the preparations. This cancellation followed a pattern, as Florence’s family had previously postponed their introduction several times for various reasons, including one cancellation a day before it was due.

Florence criticized Morgak’s decision to bring her into his family home, questioning his financial preparedness for marriage: “I’ve never seen a responsible man who would bring his bride into his family house for his parents to take care of or claim he doesn’t have money while planning his wedding,” she stated.
