Tinubu Inaugurates Ibas As Rivers Sole Administrator

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Rtd) as Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

This is coming barely 24 hours after he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Ibas arrived at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa at about 12:48 pm (local time) to meet Mr President.

Ibas, who served as Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, will oversee the state’s affairs until normalcy is restored.

On Tuesday, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

In a national broadcast, Tinubu cited prolonged political instability, constitutional breaches, and security threats as reasons for the extraordinary measure.

The crisis, which had paralyzed governance in the oil-rich state, stems from a power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Tinubu announced, “In the circumstances, having soberly reflected on and evaluated the political situation in Rivers State, the governor and deputy governor of Rivers State have failed to make a request to me as President to issue this proclamation as required by Section 305(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. It has become inevitably compelling for me to invoke the provision of Section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with effect from today, March 18, 2025, and I so do.

“By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.

“In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State. For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with their constitutional mandate.”

Heated Debate Erupts in House of Reps Over State of Emergency in Rivers

Members of the House of Representatives engaged in a heated exchange on Wednesday ahead of plenary as the green chamber prepared to deliberate on the state of emergency declared in Rivers State.

The argument broke out even before the session commenced, reflecting the intensity of the debate surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s recent proclamation.

On Tuesday, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing the prolonged political crisis in the South-South region. As part of the measure, he suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the state assembly. In their place, the president appointed retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to oversee the administration of the state.

Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the House of Representatives, confirmed that Tinubu had consulted with the National Assembly before making the announcement. According to Rotimi, the president met with key legislative leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Senate Leader Michael Bamidele, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Top security officials, including Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS) Adeola Ajayi, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Mohammed Mohammed, were also present at the high-level discussions.

Rotimi further disclosed that Tinubu’s official letter notifying the House of Representatives of the emergency declaration—submitted in accordance with Section 305 of the Constitution—has been transmitted to the green chamber. The letter is expected to be read during Wednesday’s plenary for further legislative action.

As the session gets underway, all eyes remain on the lawmakers as they deliberate on one of the most contentious political decisions in recent times.

PLABOMA Partners with PLASMIDA for Ethical Blogging and Digital Media Workshop

The Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association (PLABOMA) has collaborated with the Plateau State Micro Finance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) to organize a two-day workshop aimed at enhancing ethical blogging practices and digital media strategies. The event, which commenced with enthusiasm, brought together bloggers and media professionals focused on sustainable journalism.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Matthew Tegha, Chairman of PLABOMA, emphasized the critical role of digital media in today’s fast-paced world.

“We are not just storytellers; we are influencers, educators, and agents of change. This workshop is a step towards responsible media practice, ensuring truth, accuracy, and fairness in our reporting. The digital space is powerful, and we must wield that power ethically to impact society positively.”

Tegha appreciated PLASMIDA’s support, stressing that the workshop’s objectives include reinforcing ethical journalism, exploring impactful digital media strategies, and incorporating entrepreneurship in content creation for sustainability.

“This event is not just about discussions; it’s about action. Let us use this platform to network, collaborate, and chart a new course for responsible and impactful digital media practice in Plateau State and beyond.”

Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, Director-General of PLASMIDA, underscored the importance of equipping bloggers with entrepreneurial, financial literacy, and digital skills.

“Bloggers are more than content creators; they are catalysts for economic growth. Through digital platforms, they can amplify business opportunities, drive SME development, and contribute significantly to Plateau State’s economy.”

He acknowledged Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s commitment to MSME development through initiatives like the MSME Development Fund, which provides access to finance and training for small businesses.

“The media has a vital role in shaping public perception. Ethical and balanced reporting is crucial in promoting trust, countering misinformation, and fostering transparency. A well-informed society is an empowered one, and bloggers must continue to be at the forefront of this transformation.”

Mrs. Anna Paul-Gindiri, representing Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Plateau State Governor, urged bloggers to promote the state’s economic potential.

“Let your story angles highlight the Governor’s efforts in security, economic development, and creating a business-friendly environment. Changing the narrative is crucial—bloggers should not be swayed by small bribes but remain professional.”

Major S. N Zhakom, representing Maj. Gen. EF Oyinlola of Operation SAFE HAVEN, commended PLABOMA for fostering responsible reporting.

“Bloggers are critical stakeholders whose content shapes socio-economic activities. Misinformation can escalate crises, so always verify facts before publishing. Once misinformation spreads, damage control becomes difficult.”

He highlighted Plateau’s potential in tourism and filmmaking, warning that negative narratives could deter investors.

Da Yakubu Taddy, Trustee of PLABOMA, emphasized bloggers’ influence in shaping public perception.

“Misinformation spreads quickly and can harm Plateau State’s image. Let us prioritize professionalism, responsible reporting, and collaboration with key stakeholders to foster progress and stability.”

Mr. Polycarp Auta, Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel, praised bloggers for their role in shaping journalism in Plateau State.

“Digital platforms have democratized information dissemination, and bloggers have a responsibility to uphold ethical standards. Accuracy and verification are the foundations of trust in online media.”

Mr. Musa Pam, representing NUJ Chairman Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, commended bloggers for upholding high standards.

“You don’t just get an Android phone and start sending out any information. Ethical blogging is about responsibility, and PLABOMA has set an example for professionalism in the state.”

Prince Daniel John Bok, Acting Chairman of the Plateau Publishers Association, applauded PLABOMA’s innovative approach.

“This initiative challenges the media industry to expand its horizons. Digital platforms are not just for publishing stories but also for driving economic and professional growth.”

The workshop featured a series of insightful lectures and discussions facilitated by seasoned professionals in media, business, and finance. Participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions that provided practical knowledge and skills relevant to their field.

Key topics covered included:
• Business Plan and Strategy – Experts guided bloggers on how to develop sustainable business models for their digital platforms, ensuring long-term growth and profitability.
• Ethical Blogging and Digital Marketing Strategies – Participants learned about responsible journalism, fact-checking, and leveraging digital tools to maximize audience engagement while maintaining credibility.
• Needs and Wants – A session focused on financial discipline, helping bloggers distinguish between essential and non-essential expenses to improve personal and business financial management.
• Financial Planning and Budgeting – Facilitators provided insights into income management, savings strategies, and budgeting techniques to help media professionals achieve financial stability.

These sessions empowered participants with actionable knowledge to enhance their professional and financial well-being while reinforcing their commitment to ethical media practices.

The workshop successfully reinforced the importance of ethical journalism, business development, and financial literacy among bloggers and media professionals in Plateau State. Participants left with a renewed sense of responsibility and a commitment to upholding ethical standards in their work.

With continued collaboration between PLABOMA, PLASMIDA, and other key stakeholders, the digital media landscape in Plateau State is set for positive transformation. The workshop not only equipped attendees with valuable skills but also fostered a network of media professionals dedicated to responsible reporting and sustainable media practices.

The Cry for Justice: A Call for Reform in Nigeria’s Governance and Judiciary

By Comrade Jull Ibrahim Mallo

Nigeria stands at a crossroads, facing an alarming decline in governance, justice, and democratic principles. Prophet Isa El-Buba, a revered cleric and public advocate, has once again raised his voice against the ongoing injustices plaguing the nation. His recent address was not just a lamentation but a call to action—a plea for Nigerians to wake up and demand accountability from those in power.

The Rivers State Crisis: Wike’s Overreach

The political turmoil in Rivers State is a testament to the manipulative tendencies of power-hungry politicians. El-Buba rightfully questioned Nyesom Wike’s interference in the administration of the current governor, despite no longer holding office. His actions, which have fostered confusion and disunity, expose the dangers of individuals who refuse to relinquish control for personal gain. This pattern of political entanglement must end if democracy is to thrive.

The Judiciary’s Tarnished Reputation

The Supreme Court , once regarded as the last hope for justice, is now entangled in controversy. El-Buba condemned the recent judicial rulings, calling out the blatant manipulation of justice by politicians. The court, which should uphold integrity, has instead become a tool for political influence, trampling on the rights of ordinary Nigerians. The integrity of the judiciary must be restored—justice should not be determined by political connections but by truth and fairness.

The Case of Jackson: An Injustice Against Self-Defense

One of the most disturbing revelations in El-Buba’s address was the case of Jackson , a man sentenced to death by hanging for merely defending himself against armed herders. This ruling is not only unjust but also highlights the systemic bias against vulnerable citizens, particularly in northern Nigeria. If self-defense is now a crime, where does that leave the ordinary Nigerian? The governor of Adamawa State must intervene and grant Jackson the pardon he deserves.

The Senate’s Complicity in National Decay

El-Buba did not spare the Nigerian Senate, particularly Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whose leadership he described as a disgrace . The Senate’s inability to stand against executive excesses and defend the interests of the people is a national embarrassment. Senators were elected to serve the people, not to serve their personal ambitions or align with the whims of corrupt elites.

The Deteriorating Social and Economic Landscape

Beyond political manipulations, El-Buba expressed deep concern over the rising cases of depression and suicide among young Nigerians. The economic hardship, insecurity, and lack of opportunities have driven many into despair. The rising cost of living, inflation, and insecurity have made even the simplest aspects of life—like transporting goods—a nightmare. If nothing is done, Nigeria risks losing an entire generation to hopelessness and economic ruin.

A Call for Accountability and Reform

El-Buba made it clear : this is not a call for violence but a call for accountability. Nigerians must demand transparency, fairness, and justice from their leaders. The era of self-serving governance must end. The judiciary must reclaim its integrity, the Senate must redeem itself, and those in power must remember that governance is a temporary responsibility, not a birthright.

The struggle for a new Nigeria continues, and as El-Buba passionately declared, “We shall all see the new Nigeria, but the wicked will not live to see it.” It is time for every Nigerian to rise, speak out, and demand a system that truly serves the people.

Nigeria must break free from the chains of injustice. The time for change is now.

Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven Neutralize Kidnappers, Arrest Gunrunners in Kaduna and Plateau

Jos, March 13, 2025 – Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), in their ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have neutralized two kidnappers and arrested notorious gunrunners while recovering arms and ammunition in Plateau and Kaduna States.

On March 12, 2025, troops launched an offensive operation targeting criminal elements hiding around Kuru and Turu in Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State. During the operation, they engaged a group of kidnappers and terrorists, neutralizing two criminals found in possession of 18 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) and nine rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ammunition.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops mounted a checkpoint along the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu road in Bokkos LGA, acting on intelligence about arms trafficking in the area. They intercepted a 21-year-old suspected gunrunner, Mr. Sengi David, from Kopal Village in Panyam District of Mangu LGA. He was found with one AK-47 magazine and 48 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.

Similarly, on March 11, 2025, troops conducted a sting operation in Garaje Community, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State, leading to the arrest of a notorious kidnapper and gunrunner, Mr. Blessed Paul, aged 22. The suspect, who had been on security agencies’ wanted list, had fled to Abuja to evade arrest. However, he was lured back under the pretext of selling an AK-47 rifle for ₦1,500,000. Upon arrival at the meeting point, he was arrested, and security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The suspect is currently providing useful intelligence to assist security forces in tracking other members of the criminal network.

In another successful operation on March 12, 2025, troops conducted a rescue mission in the outskirts of Josho Village, Daffo District, Bokkos LGA, following credible intelligence on kidnapped victims in the area. The criminals abandoned their captives and fled upon sighting the troops. As a result, two female victims, Miss Nanbam Adamu (11 years old) and Miss Dorcas Wantu, both from Mbor Village in Mushere District, were rescued. The victims have been debriefed and reunited with their families, while security forces continue follow-up operations to track down the fleeing kidnappers.

The military has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security while urging residents to provide credible information that can aid ongoing security operations.

Arise and Walk Ministries Equips 131 Rural Nigerian Pastors at 2025 Systematic Theology Conference

About 131 Christian leaders from across northern and southern Nigeria are attending the ongoing 2025 Systematic Theology Conference in Plateau State. As they wrestle with foundational doctrines, many see it as a call to reform the Church from within.

“I know God is doing something.” Zingak Deshi’s voice rang through the hall, his words carrying the weight of conviction. Before him, 131 Christian leaders, including pastors, a seminary rector, and a theology professor, from different denominations across northern Nigeria and parts of the South-South sat in rapt attention. They had gathered for a week-long deep dive into scripture, seeking clarity, renewal, and a return to biblical truth.

The 2025 Systematic Theology Conference, currently taking place at Miango Rest Home in Bassa, Plateau State, is an initiative of Arise and Walk Christian Ministry, a project of Reformation Baptist Church in North Carolina. It aims to challenge and equip pastors with sound biblical teaching, confronting theological misinterpretations that have shaped the Nigerian Church for decades.

“The sessions have been challenging, and I am eager to apply what I am learning,” said Michael Augustine, an Anglican pastor from Toto, Nasarawa State. Reflecting on the state of the Church, he voiced concerns about the spread of doctrines that, in his view, deviate from biblical truth.

“For years, the Nigerian Church has been influenced by teachings that do not reflect the mind of Christ. This has affected how pastors lead and how congregations understand faith. There is so much unlearning to do,” Augustine admitted.

Beyond theological discussions, the conference also fosters collaboration among church leaders. Deshi, a member of Arise and Walk Christian Ministry, has urged participants to build strong networks and support one another in their mission.

Since 2017, the ministry has trained thousands of pastors from different denominations and led numerous crusades and medical outreaches, particularly in rural areas where access to theological training is limited.

As the conference continues, many pastors are already making personal commitments to reform their approach to ministry. Anukam Celestine, another participant, reflecting on the experience, shared: “When I return home—and even from now—I will start by improving my relationship with God. I will also point my people to Him, rather than making them look to me.”

With days left in the conference, attendees remain engaged in discussions that could shape their ministries for years to come. For many, this gathering is more than a conference—it is a call to renew the Church from within.
