Command Secondary School, Jos Celebrates 37th Graduation Ceremony with a Focus on Skill Acquisition

Command Secondary School, Jos, held its 37th Graduation, Speech, and Prize-Giving Day Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session under the distinguished chairmanship of Mr. Ademola Kasumu, Managing Director of KAS Prints, Nigeria Ltd., Abuja. The event highlighted the theme “Skills Acquisition: A Panacea for Unemployment in the 21st Century.”

In his welcoming address, Acting Commandant Lt Col HB Yusuf said, “Good morning, esteemed guests, staff, parents, and students. On behalf of Command Secondary School, Jos, I warmly welcome you to our 37th Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony. This event marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of our students. Today, we celebrate their achievements and the dedication of our staff. We appreciate your presence and support as we honor our graduates and emphasize the importance of skill acquisition in tackling unemployment.”

The Special Guest of Honor, Maj Gen AE, GOC 3 Div/Commander OPSH, representated by Brigadier Gen MO Agi, Chief of Staff OPSH, addressed the attendees, stating, “Dear students, teachers, and guests, it is a pleasure to join you in celebrating this momentous occasion. Your hard work and dedication are commendable. As you graduate, remember that discipline and resilience are key to your future success. I urge you to continue striving for excellence. Thank you to the staff and parents for their unwavering support. Congratulations to the graduates, and may your future endeavors be fruitful and fulfilling.”

Delivering the keynote lecture, Mr. Akpan Idongesit Asuquo, representing Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), emphasized, “Skill acquisition is crucial in addressing unemployment. Our current educational system focuses too much on theory, neglecting practical skills. We must integrate hands-on training into our curriculum, emphasizing technical and vocational education. Programs like those offered by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) are essential. By equipping students with relevant skills, we can reduce unemployment, foster self-reliance, and drive economic growth. Let us prioritize skills to empower our youth for a better future.”

Special guests in attendance included the Father of the Day, Distinguish Senator, Chief Joshua C. Dariye, representated by Chief Gideon Yiltu, and the Mother of the Day, Mrs. Virginia Jang. The Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Highness, Mallam Bala Ali Mohammed, Talba Babba Jos North (Pozah Kulu), Guest of Honor, Maj Gen BA Tsoho also graced the occasion with his presence

The ceremony included cultural dances, comedy presentations, and the launching of the school magazine. Graduating students were introduced, followed by farewell speeches from the outgoing head boy and head girl. Prizes were awarded to outstanding students. The event concluded with the presentation of honorarium by Acting Commandant Lt Col HB Yusuf and a group photograph.

Command Secondary School, Jos, continues to uphold its reputation for academic excellence and holistic development, preparing students for future challenges through quality education and skill acquisition.
