The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Martins Otse in connection with multiple petitions alleging serious financial crimes.
In an official statement, the Commission revealed that Otse had repeatedly failed to honour several invitations sent to him through known addresses and communication channels. The petitions against him reportedly involve “grave allegations of financial malfeasance” which the EFCC said could not be ignored.
While acknowledging Otse’s public criticisms of the Commission, the EFCC clarified that his arrest was not motivated by such attacks. “The relevant law enforcement agency will be allowed to look into them,” the statement read.
The Commission emphasized that Otse’s detention follows due legal process, including the acquisition of a lawful remand order. He has since been offered administrative bail and will be released once all bail conditions are met.
Appreciating the keen interest of Nigerians in its operations, the EFCC urged the public to allow it carry out its constitutional responsibilities without distractions or unfounded insinuations. It assured that appropriate charges will be filed upon the conclusion of its investigations.
“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” the Commission stated.
