The House of Representatives has extended its solidarity and support to Plateau State following a series of violent attacks that have devastated several communities. As part of its intervention, the House donated a total of N100 million to the Plateau State Government and select Local Government Areas affected by the unrest.

A delegation of federal lawmakers, led by former Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, presented the donation on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. The lawmakers, all from Plateau State, were mandated by the Speaker to visit the state and express condolences to the government and people over the tragic incidents.

Rt. Hon. Wase, while presenting the cheques to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, emphasized that the intervention was part of the National Assembly’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of affected communities and to demonstrate national solidarity during trying times.

The donation was broken down as follows: N50 million to the Plateau State Government, N20 million each to Bassa and Bokkos Local Government Areas, and N10 million to Riyom Local Government Area.

Governor Mutfwang expressed deep appreciation to the House of Representatives and the Plateau caucus for their compassion and unity. He noted that the support was timely and a testament to their commitment to the well-being of the people.

The Governor also drew attention to broader infrastructural needs, stressing the urgency of improving rural road networks and communication systems to enhance security response in vulnerable areas.

In addition to the attacks, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the recent fire outbreak at the makeshift Terminus Market in Jos, which resulted in significant losses for traders. Describing the incident as a painful setback, he pledged that the state government would act swiftly to assist affected traders.

“No effort will be spared to help our people recover. The resilience of Plateau citizens is unwavering, and we will stand by them,” the Governor said.
