The federal government has reassured corps members that they will receive the backlog of their delayed N77,000 monthly allowance.
The stipend increase, announced on September 25, 2024, raised corps members’ pay from N33,000 to N77,000, effective from July 2024. However, implementation has been delayed despite multiple assurances.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, reiterated the government’s promise on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He confirmed that serving corps members and those still in the scheme when the increment was announced would receive backdated payments.
“You saw the new DG saying that you will get it… We have your details,” Olawande stated. He emphasized that while payment may take some time, it remains a priority for the government.
This assurance follows recent comments by the NYSC’s new Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, who announced that the new allowance is expected to take effect in March.
