Precious Danjuma, 15, abandoned by family and detained in hospital for five months over unpaid bills
Central Nigeria: Miss Precious Danjuma, a fatal accident survivor in Nigeria, abandoned by family and detained in hospital over unpaid medical bills has been freed.
Precious, 15, had a fatal accident on January 3, 2020 along Jos-Kaduna road and was brought to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos on referral.
She was found to have multiple fractures in her left leg requiring surgery. Her father who brought her to hospital disappeared in 8hrs, leaving Precious with no one to care for her.
Until people who come to care for their relations give her from their food or support her to and from the rest room, Precious is completely helpless and hopeless.
Precious underwent surgery and in three weeks, she was found to be responding to treatment and therefore fit to be discharged. However, a N459,000 bill (what she told MK on record against N468,310 in hospital records) was handed to her.
The driver who caused her taxicab’s accident paid N100,000 (what she said on record against N95,000 in hospital records) and disappeared.
Precious was therefore detained and all her treatments stopped over the outstanding fee.
With no one looking after her or even checking to know her wellbeing, “Only God knows what He will do about my case,” Precious told MK, obviously confused on what to do.
Precious hails from Gwaska village but lived with her family in Gidan Waya, both Southern Kaduna villages. However, when her story and video was published, private individuals from Africa and America called and donated.
On Tuesday evening, Precious’ bills were cleared and processes for her release from hospital begun.
Precious’ face was literally lit when she saw MK team back to her ward during “no visit” hours, in company of hospital management. “Thank you, thank you (smiles)… God bless you (smiles),” was all the obviously speechless girl could bear to say when she was told she was going home.
Precious admitted in Bingham University Teaching Hospital aka ECWA Evangel hospital near Polo roundabout, Jos was in female surgical ward, bed 2.
She will however be released, Wednesday when her father who signed her admission before disappearing arrives to authorize her release, based on hospital protocols.
