Jos, Plateau State, October 30, 2024 – Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering border security in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). This effort aims to enhance the safety of Plateau State residents and Nigerians nationwide.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel N. Jatau, made this commitment during a visit from the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

In his welcoming address, Governor Mutfwang emphasized Plateau State’s reputation as a hospitable home for all Nigerians. He lauded the Comptroller General’s exemplary leadership and expressed confidence in her ability to implement innovative solutions to address Nigeria’s border security challenges.

Governor Mutfwang also highlighted the pivotal role of technology in effective border management, commending the NIS’s efforts in digital surveillance. “The deployment of advanced technology by the Nigeria Immigration Service in border management is a timely and essential initiative. In today’s technology-driven world, effective border surveillance is crucial,” he said.

Comptroller General Nandap, in her remarks, extended her gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for the warm welcome and explained that the NIS was in Plateau State for its 2024 annual conference. The conference, themed “Enhancing Border Security and Migration Management in a Globalized World: Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria,” aims to review and improve NIS operations.

Expressing appreciation for the hospitality of the Plateau State government and its people, Nandap emphasized the importance of continued collaboration. “Our partnership with Plateau State is rooted in shared progress, and I am confident that this alliance will continue to thrive in the interest of national security,” she stated.

She further outlined recent technological advancements within the NIS aimed at strengthening border safety. “Our primary focus remains on the safety of Nigerians and the integrity of our borders. Under the renewed hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NIS has integrated cutting-edge technologies essential for effective border management,” she added.
