The culmination of activities marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Plateau State occurred with the solemn laying of wreaths at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat cenotaph. Notable figures, including Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, and other dignitaries, participated in this poignant ceremony.
In a subsequent interview with journalists, Governor Mutfwang emphasized his steadfast commitment to championing improved welfare for both retired and active security personnel. He reiterated the necessity of providing essential support to enable officers to fulfill their constitutional duties effectively, especially in the face of provocations from terrorist elements.
Governor Mutfwang praised the professionalism of security officers, particularly acknowledging the roles of Major Gen. A.E. Abubakar, General Officer Commanding 3rd Division, and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN. He underscored the importance of a proactive approach in identifying and addressing issues within the ranks to ensure optimal service delivery.
“We will continue to honor our fallen heroes who sacrificed for our nation’s security,” affirmed Governor Mutfwang, extending condolences to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in service. He urged the people of Plateau State to support government initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace.
Former Governor Sen. Jonah David Jang, speaking at the RHINO Officers Mess, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, commended the efforts of serving officers in addressing the nation’s security challenges. He advocated for closer collaboration between serving and retired officers to contribute effectively to the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities.
Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Plateau State Col. CNC Sati B. Yilwat, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for his intervention in improving the living conditions of legion members. He reassured the commitment of his members towards a peaceful and united Plateau.
