The atmosphere at the De Bridge Hotel in Jos was one of anticipation and engagement as Hon. Daniel Asama Ago, the representative of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, hosted a community dialogue session. The event drew an impressive gathering of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups, and cultural representatives.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Asama described the forum as a platform to connect directly with the people he represents. “This dialogue is an opportunity to hear from you, share updates on my work, and build a roadmap together for our constituency’s future,” he said.

Highlighting the richness of Bassa/Jos North, a region with over six indigenous languages and a blend of ethnic communities, Hon. Asama praised the unity and resilience of his constituents. He expressed special gratitude to the elders and traditional rulers who attended despite the challenges of the early morning chill.

The representative shared a comprehensive account of his tenure, emphasizing his focus on inclusive governance and impactful development. Among the key milestones were advancing security through a motion in the National Assembly to address pressing issues such as cultism and communal violence. Youth empowerment was another highlight, as partnerships with football scouts from Manchester City and AS St. Étienne opened international opportunities for local talents, with several young footballers already headed to Europe.

Educational support featured prominently in his updates, including the payment of WAEC and NECO fees for 600 students and efforts to secure admissions into higher institutions. Employment facilitation was also addressed, with jobs secured for constituents in the Nigerian Army, police, and other government institutions.

Infrastructure development received a boost with the completion of a six-classroom block in a remote village, and further projects are planned for the coming year. Community welfare initiatives included the distribution of fertilizer, food items, and school supplies to vulnerable groups and internally displaced persons.

Hon. Asama spoke about his legislative achievements, revealing that he had sponsored 12 bills within his first year in office and intended to propose three more soon. He emphasized that every action he took reflected the priorities and needs of his constituents.

“This journey is not about individual gains but about collective progress,” Hon. Asama said, stressing the importance of unity in addressing challenges and achieving development.

The dialogue was interactive, with constituents engaging Hon. Asama on various issues, from infrastructural gaps to policy priorities. Their voices, he assured, would continue to guide his efforts at both the constituency and national levels.

As the session drew to a close, the lawmaker reiterated his gratitude to those who participated and pledged to maintain regular engagements. “Together, we can achieve a constituency that works for everyone,” he concluded.
