The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to commence a nationwide voter revalidation exercise aimed at cleaning up the voter register and safeguarding electoral integrity across the country.
According to the commission, the exercise will begin on April 13, 2026, and is targeted at Nigerians who registered to vote between 2011 and 2024. INEC clarified that the process is not a new voter registration but a revalidation initiative designed to confirm and secure existing voter records.
Eligible voters are expected to complete the process either online via the commission’s official Continuous Voter Registration portal or by visiting designated INEC centres nationwide. The exercise will run daily, including weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
INEC warned that failure to participate in the revalidation exercise could result in voters losing their eligibility, urging citizens not to wait until election day to verify their status.
The commission emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure credible elections and encouraged all affected voters to take advantage of the opportunity to update their records.
