The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its Mega Continuous Voter Registration exercise at Secretariat Junction (Under Bridge), aimed at increasing citizens’ participation in the electoral process.
The exercise, running from March 25 to March 30, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, provides eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register, transfer voter details, and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The initiative has already begun attracting a steady turnout of residents eager to secure their voting rights.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Plateau State, Mallam Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, urged residents to maximize the opportunity, noting that the expansion to multiple centers was designed to ease access and accommodate more participants. He expressed satisfaction with the first day’s turnout and called for increased participation in the coming days.
In support of the exercise, the Nigeria Alive Conscience Movement, led by James Lokrit, is partnering with INEC to drive sensitization efforts across communities. While describing the initial turnout as modest, he said ongoing mobilization could significantly boost participation, with expectations of capturing millions of new voters nationwide.
Similarly, the National Orientation Agency, through its Plateau State Coordinator, Kaneng Tabitha Pam-Hworo, emphasized the importance of awareness and community engagement. She noted that sensitization campaigns are ongoing to encourage more residents, particularly first-time voters and those needing PVC updates, to participate.
Some participants have commended the process for its efficiency. A first-time voter, Solomon Patrick, described the registration as fast and well-coordinated, urging other eligible citizens to take advantage of the exercise.
The ongoing initiative is expected to significantly strengthen voter inclusion and participation ahead of future elections.
