In a remarkable collaboration between MERCY CORPS and the Community for Social Development Agency (CSDA), communities in Plateau State were engaged in a groundbreaking linkage program facilitated by the Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP). This initiative aimed to fortify existing peace structures within communities by fostering partnerships with NGOs, Social Development Agencies and MDGs.

Representatives from Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Bassa, and Riyom participated in dynamic discussions emphasizing the crucial need to uphold and strengthen established peace establishments within their locales.

Godwin Okoko, Conflict Technical Adviser at MERCY CORPS, highlighted the organization’s commitment to enhancing community well-being by addressing poverty, imparting conflict resolution skills, and restoring peace. He emphasized the significance of establishing connections and linkages among communities, governmental bodies, NGOs, and international organizations to bolster sustainable development efforts.

Mr. Dauda D. Dinjul, General Manager of the Community Social Development Agency (CSDA), Plateau State, reassured communities of support and readiness to facilitate necessary developmental interventions.

Mr. Jil Freeson, Project Officer from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), outlined various initiatives aimed at community empowerment, including training, food security programs, and skill acquisition.

Solomon Zakka Asong, a Community Leader from Daffo District, lauded MERCY CORPS for their initiative and expressed newfound understanding of sustaining peace structures within his community. He acknowledged the potential benefits of ongoing CSDA programs.

Abubakar Abdullahi Buba, Chairman of the Gan-Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Bassa Chapter, emphasized the significance of peace sustainability and appreciated MERCY CORPS for facilitating connections with relevant organizations.

Uren Danjuma, a member of the mediation team and leader of the Women Peace Council in Barkin Ladi, stressed the importance of expanding programs like these. She advocated for skill acquisition programs to empower youth and women in their communities.

The interactive session saw community representatives articulating their needs, including access to basic social amenities such as schools and healthcare facilities.

Representatives from Tearfund, Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), Ministry of Youth and Sport, Ministry of Women Affairs, Islamic Counseling Initiative of Nigeria, Norwegian Refugee Council, and Community for Social Development Agency were present, fostering collaborative efforts towards community development.

In closing remarks, Mr. Taye expressed gratitude to the participating communities and commended the efforts of MDAs, NGOs, and development agencies. He urged communities to capitalize on the connections forged during the program for sustainable development and empowerment initiatives.
