Paul University, Awka, has suspended a member of its academic staff, Venerable Cornelius Eze, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student.
Eze, a Practical Biology Technologist in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, was placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of the university’s internal disciplinary process and investigations by relevant law enforcement agencies.
In a statement issued on Friday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Rev. Godisplan Onukwufor, said management became aware of the allegations on July 14, 2026, and immediately notified security authorities to prevent a breakdown of law and order after tensions reportedly escalated among students.
A video circulating on social media allegedly shows the suspended staff member fleeing his office while dressed only in boxer shorts following the incident.
The university stated that the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure and does not imply guilt, emphasizing that due process will be followed throughout the investigations.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a safe and morally sound academic environment, Paul University stressed that it has zero tolerance for sexual harassment, abuse of office, immoral conduct, or any behaviour that threatens the dignity and welfare of students and staff.
The institution also disclosed that counselling and psychological support would be provided to affected students and other members of the university community. It urged the public to avoid spreading speculation or misinformation that could interfere with ongoing investigations, assuring parents, students, and staff that further updates would be released as appropriate.
