PDP Support Groups Urge Alfred Dapal to Return Ahead of 2027 Elections

A coalition of coordinators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) volunteer support groups across Plateau State has appealed to former governorship aspirant, Mr. Alfred Dapal, to return to the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

The call was made during a press briefing in Jos on February 10, 2026, by the Acting Chairman of the coalition, Pharm. Stephen A. Amunkai, the Acting Secretary, Bamshak Dayal, and other members drawn from the state’s 17 local government areas.

Addressing journalists, the coalition described Dapal as a dependable and experienced leader whose contributions to the PDP remain invaluable. They praised his calm disposition, generosity, and philanthropic nature, noting that he stood firmly with the party during some of its most difficult periods.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the coalition extended what it described as a “heartfelt invitation” to aggrieved and former PDP members in Plateau State, particularly Mr. Dapal, to return and actively participate in the party’s revitalization and restructuring.

“We stand ready to receive our brothers and sisters warmly as we work together towards building a Plateau State that is more united, just, and prosperous for all citizens,” the communiqué stated.

The support groups emphasized that the PDP’s current direction is anchored on justice, inclusivity, and participatory democracy, reflecting the collective will of its stakeholders. They noted that Dapal’s return would represent reconciliation and a renewed commitment to the party’s founding principles.

According to the coalition, reintegrating respected leaders like Dapal would further strengthen the PDP’s internal cohesion as momentum builds toward the 2027 elections. They reaffirmed that the PDP remains the party of the Plateau people, founded on unity, equity, and shared sacrifice.

The coordinators also dismissed claims that recent political developments had weakened the party, insisting that the PDP’s structure remains intact across local, state, and national levels.

“PDP is strong; nothing has happened. The governor only left the party with some of his appointees. He did not leave the party with the party structure,” the group said.

The coalition further called on members who left the party after the 2023 elections to return, stressing that the PDP is repositioning for renewed leadership across Plateau State.

They expressed confidence that Dapal’s return would significantly boost the party’s viability and acceptance across all 17 local government areas, adding that they are ready to support him in a leadership role should he choose to rejoin.

The coordinators concluded by affirming their belief in Dapal’s leadership capacity and track record, stating that if he returns and decides to contest future elections, he would enjoy the full backing of PDP volunteer support groups across the state.
