The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has inaugurated the Advisory Consultative Committee on Election Security. The ceremony, held at the PLASIEC Headquarters, was aimed at ensuring the success of the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Plateau State.

In his address, PLASIEC Chairman, Honorable Plangji Cishak, emphasized the importance of the committee, which is modeled after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but tailored to the specific needs of Plateau State. The committee’s primary role will be to oversee security matters and ensure a peaceful election process scheduled for 9 October 2024.

The committee includes key security and community leaders, such as:

- Controller Nigerian Correctional Service, Plateau State
- Director General Plateau State Peace Building Agency
- State Director National Orientation Agency (NOA)
- Permanent Secretary Cabinet & Special Duties
- State Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria
- State Chairman Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI)
- State Chairman Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC)
- State Secretary Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC)

Honorable Cishak highlighted the committee’s responsibilities, including continuous intelligence gathering, interpreting and appraising security situations, and providing early warning signals to prevent breakdowns in law and order during the electoral process. He directed the electoral officers to establish similar committees across all 17 Local Government Areas.
The Chairman called for collaboration among committee members, promising PLASIEC’s support and provision of necessary information to facilitate their critical roles. The inauguration concluded with an appeal for cooperation to ensure a peaceful and successful election.
Major security stakeholders, Electoral Officers from the 17 Local Government and representatives of various organizations were present at the event, marking a significant step towards secure and credible local government elections in Plateau State.
