The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), led by its Secretary, Barr Pam Gyang Davou, other commission members and management staff, paid a condolence visit to His Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos, following the demised of his younger brother, Timothy Buba, a former chairman of Jos North local government and a key leader in the Berom community.
During the visit, Barr Gyang expressed the commission’s shock and sadness at the sudden passing of Timothy Buba. He recalled that just a week before Timothy’s illness, the deceased had voluntarily visited PLASIEC, spending two hours advising the commission on conducting free, fair, and transparent elections. Gyang highlighted how Buba expressed confidence in the commission’s capacity to organize elections that would make Plateau State proud. His sudden demise, shortly after this encounter, left PLASIEC in deep sorrow.
Speaking on behalf of His Majesty, HRH Paul Tadi Tok, Gwom Rwei Heigpan, expressed gratitude to PLASIEC for the visit. He acknowledged the strong relationship between the traditional council and the electoral body, underscoring the significant contributions Timothy Buba made to both the Berom nation and Plateau State during his tenure as Jos North local government chairman. Tok noted that Buba’s impact was felt across various spheres, further cementing the bond between the Berom community and the commission.
PLASIEC offered prayers for the Gbong Gwom Jos, the Buba family, and the entire Berom land, asking for God’s comfort and strength during this difficult time. The commission also expressed hope for peace and prosperity in Plateau State, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the legacy of fairness and transparency that Timothy Buba advocated for.
