Jos, Plateau State—The city of Jos came alive on October 23, 2023, as the Miss and Mister Tourism Africa Pageant was officially unveiled at the elegant Usuji Event Center. The event, marked by glitz, music, and culture, attracted top entertainment figures, tourism stakeholders, and dignitaries from across Africa, setting the stage for what many described as a milestone in the continent’s cultural and tourism renaissance.

The unveiling ceremony featured vibrant African dance performances and a parade of stunning contestants representing diverse African nations, showcasing the beauty and unity of the continent.

The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality, endorsed the event, signaling his administration’s commitment to using culture and tourism as instruments for youth empowerment and economic development. The 2025 edition attracted over 30 international delegates, spotlighting Plateau as a continental hub for cultural exchange and creative enterprise.

Speaking at the unveiling, Hon. Cornelius Doeyok, Commissioner for Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality, emphasized that the event aligns with the government’s vision to “change the narrative” and position Plateau as Nigeria’s tourism heartbeat. He encouraged visitors to explore the state’s natural and cultural treasures, describing Plateau as a destination where “beauty meets peace.” He further announced a street parade scheduled for October 29, calling on residents to participate and celebrate the state’s vibrant identity as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”

Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, welcomed guests and commended the organizers for choosing Jos. He described the event as a symbol of unity and hospitality, reaffirming Plateau’s readiness to host international visitors and investors. Pwajok expressed confidence that the pageant would enhance Plateau’s global image as Africa’s next premier tourism and cultural destination.

One of the pageant organizers, Sammy, expressed deep admiration for Plateau’s people, praising their warmth, creativity, and work ethic. He recounted how local hosts built a backstage overnight, calling it a testament to Plateau’s spirit of excellence. “When Plateau people set their minds to something, they deliver,” he said.

The unveiling of Miss and Mister Tourism Africa in Jos marks a significant step toward redefining African tourism through beauty, culture, and collaboration, with Plateau State proudly leading the way.
