After a one-day warning strike orchestrated by the State Joint Transport and Traders and Marketers Association on April 3rd, 2024, in Jos and Bukuru Metropolis, shops and businesses in Plateau State have reopened with the government stepping in to address the issues raised by Executive Order 003.

The strike, prompted by concerns over Executive Order 003’s impact on buildings and vehicular traffic, resulted in widespread impoundment of articulated vehicles by the government’s taskforce. However, productive discussions between the Joint Associations and the Secretary to the State Government, Arch Samuel Jatau, have led to a resolution to address these concerns.

A joint communique has been issued, announcing the formation of a 16-member committee tasked with collaborating with the state government to tackle the challenges at hand. This collaborative effort signifies the government’s recognition of the joint unions as vital stakeholders in state matters.

With the cooperation of their members acknowledged, the Joint Associations have encouraged businesses to resume activities, indicating a gradual return to normalcy post-strike.

During the strike, shops along Rwang Pam Street and certain sections of Terminus were closed in solidarity with the protest, fueled by concerns over truck impoundments and hefty fines. Despite the disruptions, traders remained resolute in their demands for resolution.

As operations resume and dialogue between the Joint Associations and the government advances, there is cautious optimism for a resolution that addresses the concerns of all involved stakeholders.
