Plateau State University, Bokkos, has officially kicked off its 2024/2025 academic session, following the approval of the academic calendar by the university’s Senate on November 5. Returning students are already engaged in online registration, and the first list of admissions for the 2023/2024 session has been published.
Under the leadership of Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Shedrack Best, who communicated through Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Moses Pyefa Galadima, the university emphasized a commitment to upholding academic standards. Lectures are set to commence on Monday, November 11, reflecting the institution’s goal of setting a new benchmark for prompt academic engagement.
“We want to change the popular perception that no academic activities happen within the first week of resumption and prior to Christmas,” Prof. Best stated, reinforcing the Senate’s dedication to ensuring students are prepared to compete on a national level.
In addition, Senate approved a flexible two-installment payment plan for tuition fees—70% in the first semester and 30% in the second semester—with a November 24 deadline for the initial payment to avoid a late fee.
The session also highlighted the university’s focus on security and efficiency. A new allocation plan for hostel accommodations grants 90% of spaces to new students, and efforts are underway to digitize university operations for better student record management. The Senate further addressed safety on campus by regulating commercial motorcycle movement and reinforcing policies on union fees and departmental charges, along with enforcing a ban on unauthorized handouts by lecturers.
This proactive approach signals Plateau State University’s dedication to a productive academic year while enhancing safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency across the campus.
