President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Plateau State as a vital asset to Nigeria’s political and economic growth, following the formal reception of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, spoke on Tuesday at a grand reception held at the Polo Field, Jos, where thousands of party faithful, supporters, and residents gathered to witness what was described as a defining moment in Plateau’s political history.
Tinubu described Plateau as “a miniature Nigeria whose rich diversity, if properly harnessed, can significantly drive national growth and development.” He stressed that the state’s heterogeneous nature requires inclusive and unifying leadership capable of turning diversity into strength.
Formally receiving Governor Mutfwang into the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the President urged him to continue providing a level playing field for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion, to thrive and contribute meaningfully to development.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang thanked President Tinubu, the APC leadership, and the people of Plateau State for the warm reception. He pledged loyalty, teamwork, and people-centred governance within the APC, while reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in the state.
According to the Governor, his decision to join the APC was guided by extensive consultations, prayers, and careful reflection, with the sole aim of advancing the collective interest of Plateau State through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government. He also pledged full support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, formally welcomed Governor Mutfwang, describing the move as a courageous and unifying step that would reposition Plateau State for accelerated growth and development. He noted that Plateau’s emergence as the 26th APC-controlled state would further strengthen the Renewed Hope Agenda nationwide.
Professor Yilwatda pledged his personal support for Governor Mutfwang ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing unity, purposeful leadership, and effective service delivery. He described the realignment as a coming together of visions that reflects a united Plateau State.
Other dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Reception Committee Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, and APC State Chairman Hon. Rufus Bature, congratulated the Governor and assured him of the party’s full backing.
Speakers at the event noted that the political realignment signals renewed cooperation, deeper democratic governance, and expanded prospects for socio-economic development in Plateau State and Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
