Former Senator representing Plateau North, has declared his intention to return to the Senate in 2027 under the platform of the (APC), pledging to prioritise security reforms, constitutional amendments, and community resilience if elected.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists at his Rayfield residence in Jos, Gyang reflected on his years in public service, from the Plateau State civil service to the House of Representatives (2015–2019) and the Senate (2019–2023). He described his previous tenure as one marked by efforts to address security challenges, economic hardship, and diversity management in the Plateau North Senatorial District.
Gyang, who previously represented the Barikin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, said leadership remains critical to national progress, stressing that “a nation rises or falls on leadership.” He noted that politics remains the legitimate platform for recruiting leaders and urged citizens not to shy away from active participation in governance.
Addressing concerns over insecurity in Plateau North, the former lawmaker emphasised that the primary responsibility of government, as enshrined in the constitution, is the security and welfare of citizens.
He advocated for constitutional alteration to devolve more powers to states, particularly in the establishment of state police. According to him, security challenges are best addressed at the local level rather than through a highly centralised command structure.
“The long-awaited constitutional amendment that will allow devolution of powers and enable state police is widely accepted,” he said, adding that the President had recently urged the National Assembly to expedite the process.
Beyond legislative reforms, Gyang outlined a three-pronged approach to tackling insecurity: empowering state-level security structures, promoting community dialogue to isolate criminal elements, and strengthening the justice system to ensure effective prosecution of offenders.
He also called for building community resilience as the first line of defence against criminality.
On the 2027 general elections, Gyang expressed confidence in the capacity of the (INEC) to conduct free, fair, and credible polls. He referenced assurances from electoral officials and the provisions of the amended 2026 Electoral Act, particularly regarding electronic transmission of results.
He acknowledged past lapses but said the new legal framework and institutional reforms would strengthen electoral credibility.
Gyang also defended the economic policies of President , particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he described as a bold and necessary decision that has increased federal allocations to states.
According to him, the policy has enabled many states to clear salary arrears and execute projects previously stalled due to financial constraints.
He dismissed opposition criticisms, insisting that the ruling party remains strong across geopolitical zones and that President Tinubu’s re-election prospects are bright, barring unforeseen circumstances.
The former senator commended what he described as growing unity within the APC in Plateau State, noting that party stakeholders had embraced consensus as a method for candidate emergence in line with the amended Electoral Act.
He maintained that the APC in Plateau is consolidated and positioned for future electoral victories, urging party members and citizens to sustain their support for the administration at both state and federal levels.
The media engagement ended with Gyang thanking journalists for their role in holding government accountable and reaffirming his commitment to public service.
