Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday, June 3, warned the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, to stay away from the party’s governorship primary in Edo State.
APC will hold its governorship primary in Edo on June 22.
Obaseki made this assertion during a media briefing after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
He further disclosed that he and his colleagues had visited the party’s National Leader, Ahmed Tinubu; as part of efforts to strengthen the party and reassure him that they were committed to building the party.
The governor added that it was “wrong for any human to try to play God.”
He expressed confidence that he would secure the APC governorship ticket; regardless of the model chosen for the exercise in Edo.
Obaseki also dismissed claims that he purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship nomination forms, saying he was “a party man to the core.”
He said: “It is against natural justice for a man to be a judge in his own case.”
“For me and my colleague – Governors, we can’t see the party we are building destroyed. We should all drop our egos and work for our party.”
The duo has been engulfed in a protracted feud over control of party machinery in Edo State.
A Federal High Court, Abuja, had on Monday stopped the Edo State government from arresting and prosecuting the former governor for alleged fraud in the construction of the state specialist hospital during his tenure.
On their part, Oshiomhole and the party National Working Committee (NWC) had insisted on a direct governorship primary in the state.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to the Federal Government to further reduce petrol pump price to N70 per litre.
1st News had reported that the FG embarked on phased price reduction; in the last few months -from N145 to N125 then N121 on Tuesday.
However, a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Tuesday, June 2; accused the government of shortchanging the populace with the high price of fuel.
In a bid to rectify this anomaly, the PDP charged the government to immediately reduce the pump price to N70 per litre; in order to reflect the appropriate pricing template following the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market.
“The PDP completely rejects the N121 per litre price announced by the Federal Government; which has even remained unenforced”, it stated.
It further stated that the new price further demonstrated the insensitivity of the FG towards the plight of Nigerians; “particularly as they battle the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
