He recounted that back in 2018, his wife, Kehinde, began experiencing abdominal pain, prompting them to rush her to the clinic of the aforementioned doctor in the Nasarawa Gwong area of Jos North local government area. After examining his wife, the doctor diagnosed her with a ruptured appendicitis that required immediate surgery.
Speaking with reporters over the phone on Wednesday night, Kamal, a resident of the Rikkos area of Jos North, shared his experience, saying, “Around eight years ago, my mother fell ill, and she was directed to a hospital owned by Dr. Noah Kekere in Yanshanu, Nasarawa Gwong community of Jos North local government area. During my visits to see my mother in the hospital, I became acquainted with the doctor.”
“When my wife became ill in 2018 and complained of severe stomach pain, my mother encouraged us to seek treatment from the same doctor, as my wife had accompanied my mother to visit him during her own illness. Upon reaching the clinic, the doctor conducted a scan and determined that my wife had a ruptured appendix, necessitating immediate surgery. He quoted a fee of N140,000. I questioned the high cost and contemplated taking her to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), but I was advised by some acquaintances to proceed with the surgery to save her life.”
“The doctor inquired about the amount I could afford, to which I replied N80,000, in addition to other charges for medications. However, even after the operation, my wife continued to experience pain, and the doctor consistently demanded money from me over the subsequent five years. The day of the surgery, the procedure began at 12 pm and lasted until 8 pm. As my wife continued to endure severe stomach pain, I hesitated to switch doctors since I wanted to maintain continuity of treatment. Recently, I decided to seek a second opinion at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where we made a startling discovery: one of my wife’s kidneys had been removed.”
“We promptly reported this matter to the Nasarawa Gwong Police, leading to the doctor’s arrest two days ago. This morning, the case was transferred to the Commissioner of Police, who uncovered that the man had never held a legitimate medical license but had portrayed himself as a doctor for over 18 years, providing medical treatment to residents in the area. His educational background includes a B.Sc in Economics and a Masters degree in Economics. He attended a nursing school but did not complete the program. He claimed to have studied Community Health.”
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, was unavailable for comment at the time of this report. However, Kamal earnestly appealed for justice on behalf of his wife and any others who may have fallen victim to the alleged quack doctor.
