Teni disclosed that she refrained from smoking or consuming alcohol until 2021, despite having been involved in the music industry for several years.
She unexpectedly revealed this information when she declined a drink offered by the host during a recent episode of the popular Zero Conditions Podcast. When the host expressed surprise and inquired about her decision, she explained that giving up alcohol wasn’t challenging for her since she had only started drinking in 2021.
The host, taken aback, then asked Teni to share her backstory. She replied, saying,
“I began drinking in 2021. Despite being a naturally adventurous person, I spent six years in the industry without indulging in drinking or smoking. My first experience with drinking was in Lagos. Curious about the sensation of getting drunk, I thought, ‘You guys are always getting drunk, what does it feel like? Let me just try it.’ I had Henny, but surprisingly, I didn’t get drunk. I waited for it to happen, but it didn’t, so I just went to sleep. Everyone was like, ‘Aaah, Teni.'”
Teni continued to share that despite the constant pressure to consume alcohol, she successfully abstained while attending the University of Georgia in the United States. She emphasized her commitment to doing only what she wanted, stating, “I didn’t drink while I was in school. Do you know what school I went to? The University of Georgia, it’s a football school, and there’s a lot of pressure to drink, but I didn’t. I only ever do what I want to do. In all the videos and skits where I hold a cup, it’s usually juice or water,” added the singer.
